Boeing South Carolina teammates participated at Wando High School’s recent engineering camp for incoming freshman girls who are interested in STEM.
Branko Lakic, associate technical fellow for Airframe Structure Design; Emily Yang, IRCSC Payloads Design engineer; Justin Pratt, Midbody Integration Structures design lead; and Ravi Suriyaarachchi, BR&T Composite Fabrication engineer; introduced the students to the basics of airplane design and assembly as well as the dynamics of flight.
By the end of the week the campers were test-flying their super-light indoor airplane models in the school gym. When we say super-light, we mean it: each airplane weighed approximately four grams – less than two pennies!
